Our Journey
How It Started: In 2020, during the global pandemic, the founder, Mr. Amila Weerasinghe, was deeply moved by the story of an elderly mother passing away in Sri Lanka while her daughter, studying in Australia, couldn’t be by her side. This poignant incident sparked a wave of compassion, leading Mr. Weerasinghe and his close friends to acknowledge the need for comprehensive care for elderly parents.
With migration trends opening global avenues, younger generations in Sri Lanka often find themselves leaving for better opportunities, leaving their aging parents alone. This realization fueled the noble idea of “Meth Mansala”, a project born out of pure love and empathy, as a tribute to all parents in Sri Lanka.
How It’s Going: “Meth Mansala”, the flagship project of “Manusath” Foundation, focuses on constructing an advanced facility to cater to the day-to-day needs of deserving elderly parents. This facility offers more than just a home; it provides free care for those unable to afford living expenses, along with physical and emotional support. Our goal is to create a comfortable and supportive environment where residents can connect with one another, living with peace and dignity.
The journey began with the purchase of a 100 perch land in Kosgama, Colombo District, marking the initial step towards the construction of the facility. Despite challenges in obtaining permits, Stage 1 construction commenced on May 9, 2022. We are delighted to share that the completion of Stage 1 in August 2023 means that “Meth Mansala” is now ready to welcome and accommodate elderly parents.
Our Objectives
Providing Comprehensive Care: At “Meth Mansala”, we cover all aspects of care, three meals a day for residents and staff, wages for our dedicated team, and utility bills for the facility, all made possible through the generosity of our donors.
How You Can Contribute: We welcome your support in various ways. Donations of Rs 25,000 to the Sri Lankan bank account or AUD 125.00 to the Australian bank account go a long way in sustaining “Meth Mansala”. Additionally, you can contribute to medical expenses, support the construction of future stages, or donate essential goods for our residents.
